Is that...?

Taking a compulsive obsession with a flightless bird and transforming the creature into a conceptual metaphor for family values, personal experience and differences between American and Asian cultures, and the connections of the animal’s characteristics to human isolation drive my development of imagery through painting.
The subjects of my paintings are miniature figures that I have sculpted and painted, and they are often arranged against a background with either other figures I have created or lighting being a major element of my personal narrative. The drama of a light source against my awkward figures can compose a story that the viewer can project on my genderless forms, whether it relates to them personally or not. The ambiguity of the experience with my abstracted forms and the viewer emphasizes my personal analysis of my race and what others have impressed upon me. I would like my work to force people to not only conflict themselves with my figures, but to come up with an impression or narrative between each other.
